With its hilly but accessible gradients, the area offers many possibilities for hikers of all experience and fitness levels. From the Plateau des Mille Étangs (Plateau of a Thousand Lakes), where forests, moors and glistening waters meet, to the Planche des Belles Filles, a famous stage of the Tour de France, each route promises an enriching experience in nature’s embrace. The region is dotted with historic and cultural gems, and you’ll be able to explore its rich religious and gastronomic heritage along the way. This is the land of Kirsch brandy, Griottines® and blueberry pie. The Southern Vosges are easily accessible by road and rail from major French cities. To reach the start point of the hikes in this Collection, head to Lure, Luxeuil-les-Bains or Héricourt. A variety of accommodation options await, from hotels and B&Bs to campsites and gîtes. Each option ensures a well-deserved rest after a day of adventure. The Collection offers a mere glimpse of the 19 routes and 150 kilometres (93 mi) of marked paths listed in the Hiking Guide to the Southern Vosges, the second edition of which has just been released.
